The Future of Modern Concrete Contracting Trends and Predictions

Trends and predictions that are shaping the future of modern concrete contracting include automation and robotics, green technology, 3D printing and more.

Automation and robotics enhance efficiency, worker safety, construction speed and consistency on the jobsite. They also promote accuracy and precision measurement to guarantee consistent outcomes.

Automation and Robotics

Automation and robotics can be employed for a range of construction industry tasks. Not only do they reduce costs, boost productivity levels and help meet deadlines more efficiently, but they’re also environmentally friendly.

However, it’s essential to note that robotics adoption in the  Modern Concrete Contractors industry lags behind other sectors (e.g., automotive), as the technology is still not sufficiently mature.

To identify and understand the factors limiting robotics adoption in construction, we conducted a literature review and qualitative analysis. Furthermore, three focus group discussions with experts in this field were held as an alternative method to individual interviews since they allowed participants to discuss and build upon their arguments more freely. After compiling all these findings into a list of 11 factors that hinder robotics adoption in construction, we identified potential barriers.

Green Technology

Green construction is a rapidly developing trend within the  Concrete Contractor industry. It prioritizes energy efficiency, environmental sustainability and durability – making it an ideal way to construct buildings with lower costs and greater performance.

Green technology also extends the lifespan of buildings by using solar power, wind power and water-saving features.

Transparent concrete is a modern green building material that allows light to pass through it from the exterior to the interior. This effect is achieved by sandwiching fiber optics between insulation and concrete for enhanced light transmission.

This technology is being utilized to construct stairs and partition walls. It can be customized according to the project requirements, is eco-friendly due to its use of recycled materials, and may save money on fuel by cutting down emissions.

3D Printing

3D printing is an increasingly common trend across various industries, and its potential disruption in the concrete industry should not be underestimated. This technology holds enormous promise for revolutionizing this sector of expertise.

At present, it mainly serves prototyping purposes and has proven to be an invaluable tool in this regard. Unfortunately, it has yet to be fully integrated into mass manufacturing processes.

Due to its limitations, this manufacturing method isn’t as durable or strong as traditional methods such as milling and turning. Furthermore, it doesn’t offer the same consistency or repeatability in parts.

Drones

Drones are becoming a vital tool in construction, especially for surveying and mapping projects. By flying overhead and taking detailed images, drones can quickly finish inspections on projects that would take an entire crew a long time to complete by hand.

Drones provide a view that would otherwise be impossible on the ground, which can be helpful with safety concerns and insurance claims. Furthermore, they create orthomosaic maps to make large projects simpler to comprehend.

Drones may not be suitable for everyone, so it’s essential to weigh the costs associated with a program before making a final decision. These costs include hardware, training, insurance and FAA compliance.

Wearable Technology

Wearable technology is an invaluable asset that can improve Concrete Company construction efficiency, increase safety and raise the overall quality of a job site. It also facilitates employee communication, tracks their work progress and offers rests/breaks to keep workers healthy and productive.

In the healthcare industry, wearable devices like heart monitors and glucose sensors have made it simpler to monitor health conditions. Furthermore, these tools can assist doctors in making more precise diagnoses when something appears amiss.
